Volkswagen's popular compact SUV, the Taos, returns for 2025 with a refreshed design, enhanced power, and upgraded technology. This year's updates aim to improve both the exterior appeal and interior experience, while adding more power under the hood. The result is a more capable and versatile vehicle that balances style, efficiency, and affordability for those seeking a compact sport-utility option.
The 2025 Volkswagen Taos brings a fresh face to the compact SUV market, with a newly designed front end that emphasizes modern style. Volkswagen has redesigned the bumper and grille, incorporating a striking light bar for select trims. LED projector headlights now come standard across all models, giving the Taos a refined and upscale look from the front. Meanwhile, connected taillights and an illuminated Volkswagen badge on the rear ensure a cohesive, distinctive appearance. New paint colors like Serrano Green Metallic, Monterey Blue Pearl, and Alpine Grey have been added to enhance its overall aesthetic.
Beyond colors, the Taos also sports new wheel options, with choices ranging from 17-inch to 19-inch aluminum alloys, depending on the trim. This gives buyers more customization when selecting the look that best fits their personal style. These design upgrades, combined with its compact proportions, make the 2025 Taos stand out among its competitors.
Inside, the 2025 Taos showcases a redesigned dashboard, bringing a contemporary feel to the cabin. One of the standout features is the integration of an 8-inch floating infotainment display, now standard on all trims. This setup gives the interior a modern, tech-forward look and provides a user-friendly interface for controlling various vehicle systems. Alongside this, Volkswagen has added a dual-zone automatic Climatronic® HVAC system, ensuring that passengers can enjoy personalized comfort during every drive.
Volkswagen has paid special attention to cabin materials as well. The base Trendline trim offers durable cloth upholstery, while the mid-range Comfortline model upgrades to MicroCloud leatherette for a more premium touch. The Comfortline Black Edition adds unique black accents and a black roof for a sportier feel. On the higher-end Highline trim, drivers can opt for leather seating, including a new "Blue Night" color option that brings a touch of elegance to the interior.
The 2025 Taos sees improvements under the hood as well. Volkswagen has revised the existing 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, boosting output from 158 horsepower to 174 horsepower. Key changes to the engine include updated piston rings, fuel injectors, and a larger intercooler, all of which contribute to the increase in power and performance. Additionally, the engine is now equipped with a new gasoline particulate filter to improve overall efficiency.
For those opting for all-wheel drive, the Taos now comes with a conventional eight-speed automatic transmission, replacing the previous seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. This change is designed to offer smoother driving dynamics and better compatibility with the Taos' 4MOTION® AWD system.
The 2025 Volkswagen Taos is packed with advanced technology aimed at enhancing both convenience and safety. Volkswagen's IQ.DRIVE® driver assistance suite is available across all trims, offering features like Travel Assist, Forward Collision Warning with Automatic Emergency Braking, and Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go functionality. These features make daily driving easier and safer, particularly in city traffic or on long road trips. Additional safety tech includes Active Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Traffic Alert, and Lane Assist, among others.
Comfort and convenience have also been upgraded in the Taos. The new acoustic dampening treatments significantly reduce road noise inside the cabin, making for a quieter, more enjoyable driving experience. The Taos also comes equipped with front and rear Park Distance Control, providing added assistance when parking in tight spaces or navigating tricky environments.
The 2025 Taos introduces a variety of trims to cater to different preferences. Along with the Trendline and Comfortline trims, the Comfortline Black Edition offers a more aggressive look with its black accents and black roof. At the top of the lineup, the Highline trim offers the most luxurious features, including the aforementioned leather seats and the new dark blue "Blue Night" upholstery. These trim levels allow buyers to find the right balance between affordability and premium features.
Volkswagen has not yet released pricing details for the 2025 Taos. However, given the upgrades in technology, design, and power, it's expected to see a slight increase from the previous model's pricing. More information will be available closer to the vehicle's release.
